FAQ

What is The Agency? The Agency is a student run advertising agency supported by industry professionals. At The Agency you will have the opportunity to work on real client projects and gain experience in the field. Agency members are expected to work at least 10 hours a week and actively participate in client work and internal projects. Do I need to be in the CJC to apply to The Agency? No, you can be any major and apply to The Agency. Is The Agency a student organization? No, the Agency is not a student organization. It is an immersion experience staffed by professionals and led by students where you can gain real marketing, advertising, and client experience. Are there any paid positions at The Agency? After being in The Agency for over a year, paid opportunities are available for leadership members. There are approximately 15 paid leadership positions available. Is the Agency remote, hybrid, or in-person? This depends on the position you get. The Agency provides all options. While we encourage everyone to come to the office in-person, many internal and client meetings are held on zoom. For production positions, you will need to be in person to attend shoots. How much experience do you need to have? Some client experience is preferred but not required. Other experience levels may vary for each position.

POSITIONS

Project Coordinator Job Description Project Coordinators are the entry-level position into account management and serve as the backbone to any client or internal team. Project Coordinators are professional and diligent, and serve as leaders on any team right off the bat. It is our responsibility to ensure the success of the project through efficiency and collaboration across the organization. Project Coordinators are strategists, connectors and organizers who consistently and actively work with the team to help craft the very best work for our clients and for The Agency’s internal goals. Project management is not only a job title, but for us, it’s a way of life. You are organized in everything you do and tend to be the planner or the leader in most situations. Above all else, we want people who bring passion into everyday situations. Our work is exciting and we need people who personify that same excitement and drive. These attributes will help motivate the team to achieve overall goals and deliver on specific initiatives, while having some fun along the way. Finally, Project Coordinators are especially hungry to learn. You may have areas of interest outside of project management. CREATIVE

As a creative, you’ll have the tools to transform outrageous ideas into effective concepts for clients — and your portfolio. Whether you’re seeking a position in copywriting, design or production, the Creative Department is full of diversely imaginative creators.

Graphic Designer Job Description As a Graphic Designer at The Agency you will be working hands-on to bring ideas into visual form. Graphic Designers create imagery to compliment and communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate their audience. They develop the overall layout and design for out of home material, brochures, magazines, social media ads, stationary, decks, mockups, etc. Graphic design in advertising is all about the ability to creatively translate strategy and brand/client needs into eye-catching visuals. If you have a knack for creative brainstorming, typography, color theory, and composition– this is the role for you. We’re looking for someone with good communications skills, willingness to learn, and thrives in a collaborative environment. Qualifications Must be able to commit at least one year to being a team member at The Agency. Must be able to commit 10 hours a week. Must be quick to communicate with team members through the Agency’s internal communication methods. Design layouts for a variety of materials to be presented to clients. Ability to collaborate and communicate efficiently with other team members Must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and semi-proficient in Photoshop and have a familiarity with InDesign. Other programs that are helpful to know include After Effects, Figma (if you know Adobe XD they’re similar), and Google Slides. Copywriter Job Description Copywriters collaborate with all aspects of the Agency. They are adaptable storytellers that bring ideas to life through their words. Their skills vary but encompass many types of writing styles such as long-form and short-form. Copywriters work closely with other creatives to get deliverables done for clients as well. Qualifications Must be able to commit at least one year to being a team member at The Agency. Must be able to commit 10 hours a week. Must be quick to communicate with team members through The Agency's internal communication methods. Quality writing and copy editing skills. Maintain client brand guidelines while providing creative content. Is responsible for working with other creatives to brainstorm and ideate for client accounts. Copywriters on all accounts should be responsible for checking the grammar and wording of all team materials prior to their delivery to the client. Videographers Job description Videographers work are responsible for operating a variety of production equipment on set and on location, in order to capture engaging stories. They will work closely with team leads and Producers in both the pre-production and production phases in order to translate the creative strategy into purposeful content. The ideal candidate has either a familiarity with working on set or a strong desire to learn. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, has an adaptable personality, and are ready to collaborate with other team members in order to create internal and external content. Qualifications Must be able to commit at least one year to being a team member at The Agency. Must be able to commit 10 hours a week. Must be quick to communicate with team members through The Agency's internal communication methods. Knowledge and experience with shooting on a camera, DSLR or cinema, including technical skills such as knowledge of aperture, shutter speed, iso, etc. Understanding of different types of shots, angles and camera movements to film client work, which may include interview, product and event videography. Knowledge of proper lighting for videos, such as three point lighting. Knowledge of capturing audio for videos using shotgun mics, lavalier mics, boom mics, etc. Working with producers to build out storyboards, shot lists and shoot rundowns. Video Editing skills (see job description) are preferred but not required, however if accepted it is expected you are willing to learn these skills with help from the production team. Video Editors Job Description Video Editors are responsible for assembling recorded video footage, audio and graphics, while applying artistic editing techniques to create final video projects which engage with audiences and accurately reflect the story and tone of the overall message. The ideal candidate loves to roll up their sleeves and take recorded video and turn it into compelling content that generates a buzz. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, has an adaptable personality, and is ready to collaborate with other team members in order to create internal and external content. Proficiency with cutting and assembling video clips into final sequences in programs such as Premier Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro X. Producers Job Description Producers are responsible for interpreting the client’s creative brief and make a plan to bring these conceptual ideas to life while communicating with Videographers and Photographers. We fondly refer to our producers as the “project managers” of production. They ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, is detail oriented and has an adaptable personality. We are looking for someone who has a strong desire to become familiar with the typical flow of working on set and who can act as support for our Videographers and Photographers. Qualifications Must be able to commit at least one year to being a team member at The Agency. Must be able to commit 10 hours a week. Must be quick to communicate with team members through the Agency's internal communication methods. Collaborating with videographers and photographers to create storyboards, shot lists and shoot run downs which fits with the theme of the story and goal of the video. Ordering and organizing what props are needed for the shoot, and making sure they arrive on the day Work with videographers/ photographers to determine what equipment they will need, ensuring it gets checked by videographers/ photographers before the shoot, and ensuring it all gets to and from the shoot. Creating folders and organization system for all files after the shoot. Do I need to have a portfolio when applying to The Agency as a Graphic Designer? Yes, you need to have a portfolio and portfolio website with 3-5 projects displayed. Do you have to own a camera? Videographer and Photographer roles require owning personal camera equipment. However, Video Editor and Producer roles do not require personal cameras. Do you need to have have an Adobe subscription? Yes, Agency members need to have an adobe subscription or have access to the adobe products on your own devices. Adobe provides a discount for university students which you can access through UF.

Full-Stack Developer Job Description As a Full-Stack Developer at The Agency you will be working hands-on to create technical solutions that bring Graphic Designers’ vision to life. Full-Stack Developers work on both the front and back-end of the development pipeline. Some technologies The Agency uses are ReactJS, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Unity/C# for augmented reality applications. Full-Stack Developers are tenacious problem solvers and ambitious individuals who are eager to learn new technologies when a project requires it. As a developer at The Agency, you will be a part of a team of both creative and technical individuals, so exceptional communication skills will be key to articulating your ideas to our teams. If you have a passion for technology, grit, and want to work in an innovative and interdisciplinary environment – this is the role for you. FINANCE

Our Financial Analysts love crunching numbers and using them to tell a story. The Finance Department collaborates with leaders across The Agency of various financial skill sets to understand their team's goals, establish budget allocations and manage their budget.

Financial Analyst Job Description As a Financial Analyst, you'll be using financial data to inform important strategic investment decisions. Financial Analysts are skilled at understanding different stakeholders’ needs to make informed strategic decisions for The Agency. The ideal candidate for this role is an analytical, detail-oriented person who can manage multiple work streams at once with competing deadlines. You should be interested in understanding finance and helping leaders understand and manage their financial needs. You can build financial models and simply communicate financial insights to others without a background in finance. This role has an opportunity for a direct pipeline to a paid finance leadership position in The Agency. MEDIA

Media Coordinators orchestrate expert media strategy, content development, and analytics, matching research and creatives in the name of effective communication. These energetic matchmakers connect what a client wants to say with how they should say it.

Media Coordinator Job Description As a Media Coordinator at The Agency at UF, you will work closely with the research and creative teams to creatively ideate media tactics and bring campaigns to life. You will be responsible for utilizing the brand strategy the research team has created to come up with ideas that engage a community, optimize the client’s social media presence, are data driven and trend focused, and inform the creative direction. Media Coordinators are in charge of creating social media content calendars, conducting social listening reports, reviewing performance marketing runs and using analytics to enhance the strategy, creatively ideating campaigns, and community management. We are looking for someone who has a natural knack for trend forecasting and knows social media like the back of their hand. Media Coordinators should be ambitious, passionate, detail-oriented, and have both creative and strategic mindsets and collaborate well with others. What is the difference between a Media Coordinator and a Strategist? Strategists create the brand strategy based on the research that informs the rest of the campaign whereas Media Coordinators use this strategy to come up with media strategies and tactics to actually execute the campaign or deliverable. Media is all about execution. Do Media Coordinators just do social media? While a lot of our clients request social media content creation and performance marketing, Media Coordinators are also capable of creatively ideating tactics for all forms of media as they are knowledgeable on the various platforms and can provide suggestions for which ones would work best for the client’s needs. How can Media Coordinators be utilized? Because Media Coordinator is one of the most versatile roles, we can fill the gaps and be utilized in many different ways. First and foremost, Media Coordinators can be used for all things social media so if you ever have a client asking for something social media related, go to Media Coordinators first. They are also great for creative campaign and content ideation, performance marketing, creative and project briefs, trend forecasting and research, influencer recommendations, and assistance with strategy and execution. Do Media Coordinators track social media analytics? Media Coordinators natively monitor how social media posts are performing by looking at engagement rates via comments, likes, views, and shares, however, they are not trained in any analytics platforms as those are used by Data Analysts at The Agency.

RESEARCH

Researchers are explorers and translators who uncover the truths within mountains of digital data that our clients zealously seek. The Research Department is an insatiably curious group with the courage to find and analyze game-changing insights.

POSITIONS

Analyst Job Description As an Analyst at The Agency, you will be the first point of contact for most clients. Analysts will develop and analyze surveys, utilize top-of-the-line market databases and industry-leading analytical tools to collect data and develop insights. Do I need to have any prior experience to apply? No, you do not need to have any prior experience to apply. We value the “researcher mindset,” which means being curious, collaborative, and able to apply knowledge from many subjects and make connections. Previous experience in the form of an internship, job, or an academic research position, is a plus. Can I apply if I am a senior? We accept applications from all grade levels and will primarily evaluate you on the quality of your application. We do, however, prefer applicants who are no older than rising seniors. Do I have to be part of the Communications and Journalism College to apply to be an Analyst or Strategist? No. The Research Department is one of the most diverse departments in The Agency, with members majoring in finance, marketing, data science, computer engineering and other disciplines. We give no preference to your major, just the quality of your application. What is the difference between a Data Analyst and a Strategist at The Agency? See above descriptions. Do I need to have a portfolio when applying to The Agency as an Analyst or a Strategist? No. You do not need to have a formal portfolio, but you are required to submit a previously completed research project. What support does The Agency offer for new Analysts and Strategists, especially for those with little experience? Upon your hiring, you will go through our onboarding process, which will educate you on all the responsibilities of your position. Additionally, we have many other training opportunities beyond our onboarding process should you want to hone your skills in a specific area. (Analyst) What kind of analytics platforms do analysts use? Analysts use social data analytics platforms ranging from RivalIQ to Google Analytics. Experience with more statistics-oriented analytical software, like SPSS, is a plus, but we do not use such platforms at The Agency. (Analyst) Do I need to have experience with data analytics platforms? No, you do not need to have previous experience with data analysis or analytics platforms. Previous experience, however, is a plus.
